Silly me
Fish Addict
I have 3 discus in my 65Gallon tank, I use to have 6 more rummynose tertas male and female fighter and some SAE..
I have now lost all the rummynose tetra's and the female fighter.. My PH is very high, I know and the water is also very hard.. but the discus doesnt seem to mind..
the PH is 8.2 and the Kh 7, GH 30+ ? or the test kit doesnt work, the NO2 is > 0 and the NO3 is 80ppm ( my tap water is 40ppm )
far from the part of the water, I dont know what to do with the discus currently in the tank as one always chaseing the others around, so much that I have one discus hiding behinde the filter outlet and one at the back left corner.. darting for food and then darting back twhen the bully starts the chase.? that gives the other one 2 second break to make a run for the food.. the lfs best advice is to add 5 or 6 more discus to spread the bulling so one discus doesnt get bullied all the time..
What can I do to reduce the Gh levels in my tank, other that a R/O system, since if thats wats needed the discus will have to live with the high hardness. thay are eating and growing very well for the past 6months.
I changed my automatic water changer now to do a 5gallon water change everyday to reduce the NO3 levels a little but since my tapwater is high it doesnt seems to work.. it hasnt rained here for the last 9months so I hope the water drops in both Gh and PH when the rain starts..
I also stopped trimming my plants so it looks like a jungle inthere, both to aid in the NO3 levels and some more hiding space for the bullied discus..
I found my wife with the small net poking the bully discus to give the other some time to feed, but he is as tough as nails. The only lfs that sells discus only get them when I order them and doesnt have a tank to take some back or help me house the bully for a few days..
