Lost My First Fish

i dont think the ph effects the fish that much unless there was a huge difference. how much different was it?

She didn't say and I didn't ask, but the new fish seems to be doing quite well, so I think I did better. For the person that asked how many I have I only have one, but will probably get another so it can have a friend. I have a really small tank so have to be careful about overstocking. All seems to be going fine right now. Another pal will have to wait until after next weekend as we will be out of town for two days and I don't want to put new fish in when I'm going to be gone. Hopefully the cory will be OK until then. How do you tell if you have a male or female cory? Do they mate as frequently at livebearers or will it be OK if I don't worry about the sex or the new friend? With just a ten gallon tank I don't have a lot of room for fry and I don't like the idea of babies getting eaten by their parents and tankmates.

Stress coat only harms the fish it doesn't help it. ;) [/quote]

I'm confused - why do you say that Stress Coat harms fish?

PLEASE EXPLAIN THIS

Sorry to hear that Debra, I have lost 50% of my fish this week due to ich so I know how you feel. :-(
Well I have been told on here that it creates excess slime on thier slime coat and it goes over their gills making it hard or impossible to breath.

if you look at a corys from above, you will see that females and males are different widths. females are wider than males. you dont have to worry about the ratio, but if you want to breed, i think its best to have 1 male to 2 females. i have found that cory fry will be more likely to survive if they are kept the tank water. if you get eggs, just buy a breeder net and place them in there. i will try to get pictures of my corys to show you the difference.
