Lost Interest - Need Inspiration

Hi Guys

I've been a member on here for a few years and have noticed people have come and gone and unfortunately I'm at the stage where I need something to revitalise my enthusiasm. My tank is still a nice feature in my living room and I would never give it up.

I'm growing on 4 Ancistrus Riu Ucayali which I'm hoping will pair up and head to the slate caves, plus I have 4 angels which I'm going to try and sex up. I also have clutches of apple snail eggs above the water line. Water temp is 25.8, 6.8ph.

I dont know whether I need to change my fish or what but I'm not putting the time in that I used to. I'm doing 60L water changes every 2 weeks and still keeping up the maintenance but something isn't right.

Any suggestions?

as mentioned there are 2 breeding possibilities already in there. I dont know whether I'm just being impatient or need a change of plan or what.

Get another hobby that will keep you occupied aswell. If your thinking about all the time you can get bored of it. The less i do with my tank atm, the happier i am lol.

You obviously are doing something right as it sounds like you have no casualties in your tank, disease free etc. Next challenge would be another tank but something a bit more difficult. Maybe a tiny tank, or a strict biotope tank, or even something a bit salty...

Try marine. It's alot more interesting as the biodiversity possibilities of a marine tank are much greater than that of a tropical tank. Its alot more interesting watching your tank grow. Even though they are more expensive to keep it's well worth a try.
If not your cup of tea try a small nano tropical planted tank and just keep a few dario darioes I'n it.
A bigger tank? Get some discus and breed them. Or try breeding places. I know bristlenose's arnt hard to breed.
Try another tank and put some elephant noses I'n they are pretty cool fish.

thanks everyone, I'm going to take everything on board and have a think. only thing is marine is out of the question as I just dont have the money

I'd recommend having a go at a Walstad set up, it's essentially a self sufficient set up that requires minimal water changes (once every 6 months) It can be a challenging experience.

I think the first couple of weeks you have to do a couple of water changes just to remove toxins etc out of the water which could come from the soil however after that they become very infrequent like mentioned above maybe once every 6 months. Correct me if I'm wrong but is it true you can also add fish as soon as you set the tank up?

It depends on the soil, if you use plain soil there shouldn't be any problems but substrates such as ADA amazonia etc leech ammonia, you can add fish straight away, however you wouldn't stock as normal, stocking is light as the filtration is done by the plants.
