Hi i have a tank which was split and had on one side 16 galaxy rasboras
and on the other was another couple of fish

within last 48hours ive lost 10galaxy rasboras

they look fine one minute then i look again in a couple of hours and ive lost another they are dropping like flies!

theyre are no visible signs of any disease or anything at all whith any fish

stats

ph=6.6
amm=0
no2=0
no3=50

nitrates are high i know which i will be cutting with water changes.

any ideas why theyre dying and it sems from being ok to dying is only hours its taking very very quick

can anyone help? :crazy:

When fish "drop like flies" I'd think it is related to the water, and not disease. What has changed? Nitrates are high but I don't think that is killing the fish. Could something have gotten into the water? Aerosol sprays, etc.? I'd do immediate water change, match the temp carefully...

yes, agree, this sort of thing happens from time to time and the sudden death with no prior symptoms definately points to some problem with the water such as a contaminent in it rather than any disease that needs treatment.

have you done a water change in the last day or so? I've heard before of problems with the water treatment facility meaning the water one day had something dodgy in it, if you happened to do a water change that day it could nuke your tank.

don't do a water change straight away, if something bad is in the tap water it could still be there, phone your water authority and see if they know of anything it could be, if you can get some remineralised RO water then do a massive water change with this straight away.

no didnt do a water change before this happened, so i dont think its that

fair enough, worth considering though.

i'd suggest getting the strongest anti bac med you can into the tank asap then. with them going so quickly it's impossible to make a firm diagnosis but you've obviously got no time to hang around.

another 2 dead only got 4 left out of 16 i had 2 days ago, this my breeding group as well!!¬!

wat would u suggest some it like anti internal bacteria or summit as strong as metro?

not desperately familiar with metro, isn't it specific to HITH or does it have other uses?

I'd just use a strong 'normal' anti bac like protozoin.

sure you know this but any treatment without a proper diagnosis is risky, but as time is not on your side you can't muck around. Just saying what I would do personally if it was my fish. :dunno:

Metro is for internal parasites, and if put in the water , it will kill external parasites. I would go for sometihng like Maracryn 2 or something along those lines.

we dont get that here ,

How many gallons is the tank.
How many fish and which type.
Do you have a filter on each side of the tank with it being split.
Are the fish laboured breathing or darting around the tank.
Any excess mucas on the fish body or gills.
Just anything to go on.
Read a thread years ago about split tanks causing bacterial infections as oneside of the tanks wasn't being filter right because of the panel in the middle causing the water not to flow right.

its 40l split tank

2xottos
4ctenapoma
2xkretseri
onlly 4xcpd's left

sponge filter on both sides
no breathing or darting
no muccus etc

i cant see any signs or symtpoms a all

all other fish are fine even the ottos
just the cpd's

Only know what otto's are havent a clue about the other fish listed.
Can you use there common names.
Do the fish look pale or darker in colour.
Any fish being listless or lethagic.
Are the fish still eating.
Any fish trying to get off the substrate and just floating back down.

they dont have common names lol

no difference at all with them in any way

fish eating well, even the cpd's that are dying

this is the problem they are dying very quickly i see no signs of any illness just find them dead.

If its a bad bacterial infection doubt lfs meds will save them.
Do they look on the thin side or bloated.
Have you seen them go to the toilet.

Its not external parasites as there not showing any symtoms.
Water ok though the nitrate reading could be lower.
What your tap nitrate reading.
