Looks Like Mud/rust

I set up a tropical fish tank a month ago, and a couple of weeks into it running, on pretty much every item in my tank (except my fish) there is what looks like rust or mud. Now obviously I know it isn't mud or rust, but i'd like to know what it is. And is there anyway of preventing this from appearing in my tank? Thanks

For the record I have 6 neon tetras, 6 guppys, 2 blue dwarf gournami, 3 sucker catfish and a few live plants.

If you got the plants from walmarts pagadged or any pre-packadged plants, I bet its that.
Thats happened many times to me before.

i second the brown algae, not fun stuff to deal with as it keeps coming back (in my experience)

Probably brown algae yea. Usually happens in newer tanks. Your tank just has to mature to green algae or u need more powerful lights

Thanks for the replies, brown algae sounds like it. I researched it and it said that it normally happens around 2 - 12 weeks of the new tank being set up, and after it goes as fast as it appears - I guess my best bet is to wait for my tank to mature. Thanks again for the comments.
