Hi,

I have a Juwel Rekord 120 and am looking to change into a typical Chiclid setup. Any advise on the easiest ones to keep would be greatly appreciated. Would like along the lines of Rams, Kribensis and maybe a couple of larger variety. I am relatively new to tropcal fish (4 months), have currently in the tank 2 x blue gourami, 2 x dwarf gourami, 6 x tiger barbs and 5 x cardinal tetras all will relocated to a friends larger community tank if the Cichlid one happens. Am I biting off more than I can chew or should I stick to the one I have already set up.

Look forward to any advise.

From what I know about tiger barbs, I'm suprised they havent killed or harrased to death all your tetras. I would keep barbs, especially tiger's in a species only tank...but that's me i guess.

Anyways, with a community set-up you can keep any of the dwarf varieties. Bolivian Ram's are prob the best bet for peacefulness an ease of finding. If you can get a pair, they would be a colorful addition to your tank. If you got rid of all the other fish, you could prob keep convicts, but they need more room as they grow larger and can be quite aggressive to other fish (especially when breeding). anything bigger than a convict though, I would def rule out as your tank isn't huge.

If i could rehome the Tiger Barbs could it be a possibility to house a couple of Gold Rams, and have also got my eye on a couple of East Euro Rams?. Could the two types be kept in the same tank? I have got plenty of live plants and hiding places, there would also be plenty of room without the Tigers and the two Blue Gourami`s have already been rehoused.

Sorry chaps and chapesses, I have just answered my own question. Read the pinned article written by Ben on 21st March 2005 at the top of this forum, explained more or less everything. Should have looked there first. Thanks Ben, excellent reading and advise.

Just wondering, are the tigers aggressive to your other fish? I'm pretty sure that they are nasty to other fish, but maybe you have fish that can be a little less moody.

Hi,
The six largish tigers are not aggresive and I have not seen them pestering the other fish in the tank(Ok they have had a swipe at the small cardinals), they only squabble amongst themselves.

Reference my earlier post, is what is decribed as an East Euro Ram? the same as a Bolivian Ram? I cannot find any reference on the net for an East Eero.

Correction: Silly me, Bolivia is just below Brazil, so I doubt it would be similar to an East Euro, maybe German or somewhere around that region.
