Right now, my 20 gallon contains

7 glowlight tetras
1 female betta
1 gold ancistrus (very small, can move him to the 50 gallon if he gets too big for the tank)
4 pepperred cories
3 otos

I'm looking for one larger fish, or maybe 3 medium sized fish to fill it up

I have lots and lots of plants in there, and running aquaclear 150 and mini, so i can safely handle a bigger bio-load right now.

A couple of dwarf rainbow fish like the Praecox (neon blue) would look cool.

i already have enough algea eaters in nthere with the otos, ancistrus and the few shrimp i forgot to mention...

I'll look up thos rainbow fish. Angels would outgrow a 20 gallon tank rather quickly

thanks for your help folks!

Dwarf rainbows are fairly nippy.. a friend of mine has some, and they nip at her female betta all the time.

I believe they are nippy if kept in groups of 3 or more. I had 2 in my community tank for 2-3 years with tetra's, danio's and all sorts and never had any nipping problems. I also had 3 female Betta's in that tank for about 3 months with the Praecox and there were no conflicts. There are a few different dwarf species though and I can only confirm that the Praecox have been ok.

I only have the male left now as the female died a couple of months ago :( . He does fine though and now thinks he's a danio, swims around with them all day.

Hi yvez9 :)

You have a nice group of fish in your tank already, but you could use something a little brighter to make it interesting.

I wouldn't suggest gouramis even though they are often used as a "centerpiece" fish, because you have the betta in there. A few platties might be a nice touch, or if you want something a little different, you might try 2 or 3 Blind Cave tetras. :D

They were in a group of three originally, very nippy.
One died.
Now there's only 2, and they're still evil.. all they do is chase the female betta around the tank all day, nipping at her.

How about some apisto? Apistogramma borellii or Apistogramma agassizii?
