i'm looking to get a new tank to upgrade my 8 gallon. the maximum length and depth (height doesn't matter too much) is 70cm x 30cm, obviously it can be a little less. anyone got any recommendations on brands (bearing in mind i'm in the UK) that provide tanks with those rough demensions?

Lots of companies make 2x1x1 tanks for quiet cheap a juwel rekord 60 is not bad for the money. Fluval make one aswell and so do Elite. All these are all in one kits be about £60.

thanks mark, i was thinking the rekord, i think that might be what my brother has.

Hiya,

I'd definitely recommend Juwel but I wouldn't opt for the Rekord 60, the 70 is 10cm taller which (in my opinion) makes a huge difference! I own two Rekord 70's and seriously can't fault them :D

Couldn't agree more, the 70 is much better.

However, you are much better off getting one secondhand ... for £40 you can easily pick up something in the 125ltr range. ... Or just buying a cheap clearseal tank would give you plenty of options for personalisation - I find the lights on the Jewel 70 to be inadequate for anything other than illumination ... some people feel the internal filter box takes up to much space ... and so on.

The Rekord 70 is great

i have been eyeballing the reckord 70. i think i may hunt out that one. is it possible to upgrade the lighting at all as i do have live plants in all my tanks? and would be moving some of them over.

125 litres would be too large for the space and existing bookcase i have.

The only way you could upgrade the lighting would be to do a DIY jobby on it. You could change the bulb to an Aqua Glo which would give you a couple of extra watts compared to the Juwel supplied bulb but to be honest it wouldn't make much difference. Saying that though, I've very successfully grown low light plants in one of my Rekord 70's. I don't have plant substrate or co2 and only add liquid ferts once a week but they've flourished :D

well that's ok then. i only have low-light plants, mostly hygrophilia.
