evening all,

I have a 70L tank which im considering using to breed something, does anone have any suggestions? (anything bar guppies!)
I was thinking, types of tetra, rams, swordtails? im sure someone here would have past experience for a breeding beginner...

a type which would go well with cherry shrimp would be a bonus!

many thanks

Possibly sparkling gouramis, panda corys or endlers. Whats your water's ph as many fish need particular water to able to breed.

cheers for the quick reply. the pH at the mo is 7.4-7.8 (the solution colour is between the 2 colours for those figs.

lets call is 7.6

Hi, Your Ph is in the high area alot like mine so livebeares would be a great choice e.g swordtails, platys and endlers or if your looking for something slighly out of the ordinary then dwarf shell dwellers of lake Tanganyika would be an ideal choice. Kribs may also be an option as they can tolerate a higher ph. If you want to raise the fry seperatly from the parents you many need a growing out tank so you can raise the fry in one tank and have the breeding fish in the other, although kribs and shell dwellers can be great parents when the fry are young! Hope this gives you something to look into.

cheers for the reply again,

I was thinking swordtails but may look into the Tanganyika type.

with the swordtails i was thinking of using one tank as a breeding tank and after the fry are releared by the fish id move the adults to my community tank, sound viable?

cheers

Well i prefer cories since they are peaceful fish? If you want to get any type of tetras try to find type of tetras which arent fin nippers. I have white skirt tetra and serpea tetras they are fin nippers.

Sound like a good idea.

can anyone thing of anyother fish than swordtails for my tank? im guessing rams would eat the shrimp? how about killis? rainbows?

id love to breed corys but im assuming they would destroy the shrimp? hopefully someone can tell me im wrong ;-)

any feedback is much appreciated

cheers

Corys are a good fish to breed for someone who is just starting with egglayers. I would suggest raising some kind of livebearers first if you are just starting out. Since they are larger when they are born, some of the more tricky problems of raising hatched fry are not encountered.

cheers, this will be my first foray into breeding so ill got for livebearers. any to reccomend?

im not too sure bout what live bearers, i only have one pair, never breed them

but if you wanted an easy egg scaterer i would go with Tiger Barbs, ive been trying to breed them for a while, i've had two batches of fry i just cant keep them alive lol...good luck breeding!!
