Hello all.

My dad had a tank years ago when I was a kid, but hasn't done anything for at least a decade and a half. I am thinking about getting back into it, but I am interested in only spending money on quality, essential products. I don't want to add a bunch of stuff to the tank that don't actually benefit the fish/plants. I haven't purchased anything yet, because I am months from actually getting started based on my summer travel schedule.

What does everyone prefer? Start RIght, Prime, etc?

Also, any pointers on where to find ammonia for a fishless cycle are welcomed as well.

I've got just about everything else lined up... or at least have a direction, but looking at all the different dechlorinators has got me a little turned around. There are just so many. I am even thinking about API's "Tap Water Conditioner"... that just sounds like what I need, but nothing more. But, it could just be crap!

I know a lot of people on hear swear by Prime. I personally use the API tap water conditioner and don't have any problems. It is the only thing I use now that my tanks are cycled and I just have to dechlorinate the water. Buying Prime in the LFS is generally more expensive then getting it online in say a 2L or 4L bottle. They will last you a long time but seem to be worth the money if you can put that kind of investment into them up front.

For your dechlorinator then that would be Seachem Prime, simply for the benefits it provides and its very concentrated so will last you a long time. If you are living in the UK then boots is the place for H/H Ammonia.

Keith.

I use Tetra Aquasafe, it doesn't really matter they all do the same job...
