My quarantine tank is just about to finish cycling in a few days, and i'm planning on stocking my 20gal high all at once(I'm still going to quarantine the fish to be on the safe side). I'm getting 7 threadfin rainbows, 5 sparkling gouramis, 2 ottos, and about 15 cherry shrimp. I was planning on getting all these fish at a LFS, but I called them today and they said they only get sparkling gouramis in the fall and winter and only very randomly in the summer. So does anyone know where I could get some online since I can't find any around here? Or if anyone has any they are willing to sell?

I've talked to several people online who have ordered from Frank and have been happy, although I haven't heard anything specifically about his gouramis. I'd order from him myself if I were to order any fish right now. He has a lot of interesting stuff!

That said, if I were you I'd just wait until they had them in locally if you're sure they will in the semi-near future. You could stock the other things and just wait. Five sparklers are not going to be too much on the bioload to add all at once at a later date.

Sparkling Gouramis are really nice, But I would be wary about threadfin rainbows with them.
I have IME witnessed a group of Sparkling Gouramis gang up on angels and Bite their Ventrals and try to drag them around the tank.

Are you certain those were sparkling gouramies and not croaking gouramies? Both species can be aggressive - though more so towards each other and mainly between males. But croakers, at a max. of 2.5" would be far more capeable than a 1" sparkler of terrorizing angelfish. On the other hand, angels can be quite aggressive (and can often provoke aggression this way) anyway. So I wouldn't keep them with small gouramies regardless.

Yep definetely Sparklers, i've kept both.
It was so amazing watching these little fish gang up on angels and try to rip the ventrals of them.

Thanks, TammyLiz for the link there :) . I will most likely get them off of there since for 6 it total to only about $42 to get them here. It the store I was talking about I could get 6 (when they have them) for $48 :/ . But I will be getting the threadfins from that store about 8 or 7 for about $11 each :X .

If the sparkling gouramis show any aggression I think there will be enough fish for it to not cause a problem. Also rainbow are very fast and there are lots of plants to hid in :) .
