my lfs has some rice fish with stunning blue eyes just wanted to know to a latin name so i can have a good look at these fishies seen requirements or if anyone knows anything about these fishies
and also they had common(silver in colour not the silver hatchets) hatchet fish there i would like some more info on thse aswell - latin names / family of fish if possible then i can do more research ;)

i always research any fish i'm interested in before purchasing

would either of these fish be ok in my community tanks and whats the minimum tank size for them - looking to add to the rekord if poss for kids can get rid of guppys

cheers Sarah - hoping all words are ok MS head not good today

MY stats water in all tanks run the same or very similar
soft water (devon wee have soft water but i dont have a reading for it)
ammonia 0
nitrite 0
nitrate 10-20 (tap runs the same)
ph 7-7.2
tanks are kept at 24-26c varies with lights on

were the blue-eyed fish cichlids at all? - Cryptoheros spilurus or Cryptoheros sajica ?

they were listed as rice fish and looked like normal rice fish but had stunning blue eyes

Could they have been blue eyed rice fish? I think the latin is Oryzias javanicus

Another possibility...here

thats the ones thanks for shroob - blue eyed java rice fish
that now i can now research a bit on them and see wether they'd be ok in a 60 litre

cheers Sarah x

now what about the common hatchets that are silver in colour i keep getting mixed results when i search they were classed as friendly

Stab in the dark here...

While not "rice fish" pseudomugil rainbowfish are commonly called "blue-eyes"

this is a hatchet fish i believe they are friendly but you have to have a certain lid or no lid not sure as they jump and sort of fly not jump up but over the water.

thats the one they will be going in a rekord 60 or aquaonear620 if suitable so the lids on these are very secure

thanks for all the help guys

i love researching my fishies - i'm strange i know ;)

stange oh no its what everyone should do :good:

lmao but i dont see that many people doing it ;)

thanks again for the help mainly interested in them for the kids tank
my 5 yr old spotted the blue eyed rice fish adn wanted them and my 3 year old spotted the hatchets and wanted them
so they are pretty good and know mummy has to come home and see if they will be happy in the tanks before we can buy any fishies - that we dont know about

so they settled on the 3 khuli loaches for their tank and 6 glass fish for one of mine ;) also got my pre quarentined dwarf gourami pair - lfs quarentined 3 pairs for me for the last 6 weeks cos of the infections they get only 1 pair survived so i got them , they are now quarentining me another female (3 in seperate tanks) so in 6 weeks shes going to join them - if any survive that is lol
