Hi, I apologise as I’m aware it’s not a tropical fish but I’m looking for help for my platy. I’ve just noticed a large white mass coming from the underside. Does anyone have any idea what time could be?
Thanks

Hello and welcome to the forum! :hi:

How long has it been there? Does it look fuzzy? Has it recently given birth?

What are your water parameters?

Hi, thank you for the reply.

P.H 7

Nitrite 0ppm

Ammonia 0ppm

Nitrate 20ppm

Temp 21
I only noticed it today and no she hasn’t gave birth recently. It does look fuzzy in texture. There is a small red streak through it too.

looks like a prolapse.

Do you have unscented Epsom salts on hand?

I would give this platy a daily bath dip in an epsom salt solution.

1 tablespoon per gallon of water. In a separate tank. Have this fish in it for up to 30 minutes each day. It helps reduce swelling.

Unfortunately if this does not work, the platy won't make it and may need to be euthanized depending if it doesn't improve :(

And platies are tropical fish and even if not tropical you are welcome to post about non tropicals all you want too :)

I agree, my thought exactly. Great advice.

I don’t have any to hand but will pick some up and see if it helps.
She’s unfortunately looking quite sick now so I don’t think there’s much hope :(

Thank you for the advice

Hi, just to let you know my poor fish died last night . She was not eating and quite lethargic so I had a feeling she was on the road out. Thanks for the advice and I’ll keep it in mind for future if needed.

I'm sorry you lost your fish, she was a pretty one.
