Looking For Good Fish Store In South-Western Ontario

Well, one of my two usual LFS (who usually ordered me in fish) is under new management who couldn't care less about the fish aspect. Needless to say, I won't be shopping there anymore. Because of this, I'm looking for a new store to frequent in Southern Ontario (within a 2 hour radius of Norfolk County, Ontario) which covers the Brantford, Hamilton, Kitchener/Waterloo/Cambridge, London, and Toronto areas. If you live in the area and have a good store or two, I'd appreciate it if you share.

i found a handful of pet stores in my area just by typing "pet stores in philadelphia" into google. it listed quite a few that i hadn't even heard of. that might help

Tried that, but I live in a small town (by small, I mean population 17,000), so finding stores like that is difficult, and if I'm going to travel for a store, I want it to be on a recommendation from someone who has shopped there before, so that I don't get there and find it in worse condition than my stores at home.

Well that's a but bigger than where I am. And a he'll of a lot bigger than where I grew up (that place had a population of about 350)

seriously, no store is perfect. Why aren't you happy with the ones near you?

I've done numerous google searches to get an idea of where some are, then with some, just taken the risk and gone for a look, and others I've checked out on the way through to go somewhere else.

3 Possibilities in my town.

Store #1; overpriced, even for a mom and pop operation. Sells sick fish frequently without warning. Lots of dead.
Store #2; nice store, owner is fairly knowledgeable, but stock is highly limited and they don't have space to order in for me.
Store #3; big-box-store who rarely have healthy fish in.

17,000 - no public transportation. Can walk from one end of the town to the other without missing a beat.
By Ontario standards, it's very very small.

don't think it's that small!

you have 3 fish stores there! my closest one is a 15 minute drive, the next one is a half hour drive (or more depending on traffic) and the distance just goes up...


like I said though, just take a chance. if you're wondering about their stocking before you go, just phone em up! ask em if they have a few fish. then go there, if there are dead fish, tell someone, if it's dealt with, then don't worry too much and you've found a half decent store.

it may be small by ontarios standards, but not really when you compare to the rest of the world.
