HEllo All,

I am interested in adding some new fish to my tank. I currently have a 30gal tank with 1 Mickey Mouse, 4 Red Eyes, 3 Painted Glass, 1 YOYO Loach(I've had this one for a year and its only 3 inches long) and 1 Pleco(4.5 - 5 inches). My wife picked up the Painted Glass not knowing what we know now.....

I've had no luck with guppies for some reason.

I'm looking at getting some bigger and brighter fish, does anyone have any suggestions? I'm thinking of jumping up to semi-agrresive but are there any that will get along with my existing fish?

I will be doing some research just thought I might get some quick thoughts.

THanks
Joe

If you want 'centerpiece' fish that will work in your tank, gouramies would be the way to go as they are still peaceful towards their tankmates. BUT, lets not generalize too much :p Good gouramies would be banded/indian (colisa fasciata), thick-lipped (colisa labiosa), honey (colisa chuna/sota) or pearl (trichogaster leeri). Any of these (choose just one species) would work nicely as a trio (1 male, 2 females). C. fasciata gets to 4", c. labiosa gets to 3.5", c. chuna/sota gets to 1.5" and t. leeri gets to 4-5". This last one is my favourite fish but also the most prone to being nipped. The others are all hardy and quite peaceful - both with each other and other fish. Avoid colisa lalia (dwarf gourami) as they are very fragile and there's no reason to think that, if you can't keep guppies, you can keep them. Also avoid three-spot gouramies (this includes gold, blue, cosby, opaline, platinum or lavender color morphs) as they are highly aggressive and avoid moonlights (t. microlepis) or snakeskins (t. pectoralis) or kissing gouramies as all of these grow too large.

Correct me if i am wrong. Wouldnt a RTBS work as well? Depeding on the species of pleco. And makign sure it is a planted tank. I think it is possible.
