Hey guys I have a 125 gallon tank with a nearly full grown adult oscar and a pleco (about 6"). I'm a little board with just these guys I have two balas (9") in there as well but I'm giving them to my friend to keep with a couple of other balas. What would you guys suggest as a good tank mate?

It'd be really hard if not impossible to add another cichlid as a tank mate, so I'd go for some more dither style fish - maybe some silver dollars or large clown loaches?

Ya i know what you mean, I wish these damn fish werent so territorial lol. You guys think he could live with a black shark, or would they fight? Id have to find one pretty big though.

Seeing how he is full grown, he will try to dominate anything you put into the tank. It will be hard to find any fish that he will allow.

Too, no RTBS. they are just as aggressive if not more so then the most aggressive cichlids and I've even heard a horror story on TFF that a RTBS killed a GT that was 1.5 times its size. So.. i'd say no

Well i didnt say a Red Tail Black Shark i said a black shark. Theres a difference. Ive owned 2 different black sharks before and theyre not that agressive at all until they grow very large.

If you can get them, some convicts that are big enough not to be eaten could work.

Not sure about the temperment of black sharks but a 125 gallon tank would be too small as they can grow to 2'.

you could put in some bichirs
grow them out in a different tank if they are really small

they usually hide during the day and come out in the evening

an RTBS would work fine with a fully grown oscar.

i had a fully grown RTBS with hercules when he was about 6" too and they never bothered each other.

hercules patrols the top and the shark at the bottom.

there pretty good at cleaning up after oscars too.

either that or youd maybe try some sort of syno cat but again youd have to get it quite big.

my syno actually sucks on hercules's face whilst hes eating and catches crumbs out his gills and mouth lol.

both these fish could be given a nice place to hide too if the worst did happen.

Ya I know what you mean Sam however not to be rude but i already stated it isnt a Red Tail Black Shark I want its a Black Shark theres a difference

Black sharks have been know to take a liking of slime coat on bigger fish, and once that black shark hits a foot, he has alot of potential to do some serious damage to your oscar, there is no reason whay you couldnt try it, but they can be VERY mean, big and a pain in the rear, i suggest either a few tin foil barbs, large danios, or silver dollars, maybe if you had some serious shelter a pair of convicts, they will provide feeders, and they look good when they a big :).

You could also a large catfish, like a feather fin cat, maybe a sturgeon catfish (providing the tank is a 5x2x2) or even a tiger shovel nose if you are prepraed to get a 8x4 tank :D good luck.
