OK, I'm still mourning my angel's death and the return of the other one to the store, but am recovering :p

Now I get to find new tankmates for my Rainbowfish and cories. My rainbowfish are really aggressive for their species.

Here's what I'm thinking, please let me know if they will or won't work and how many I would get. Adult size is not a problem b/c the lfs will exchange for me:

Severum
Firemouth
Blood Parrot
Keyhole

Thanks :)

The others on my maybe list aren't NW, but are:
Kissing Gourami
Tiger Barbs
Serpae Tetras
Kribensis

Thanks,
Kristin

Edited to add: I'm only looking for one kind of fish, not to add all of those, those are just the ones I'm trying to decide between ;)

After talking it over with both the lfs employee and the owner I decided on 2 juvie severums. Green ones. They're a good size and should be able to stand up to the rainbowfish ;) :p

Once again good luck with your sevs.
Thanks again David

willywonka - Most NW cichlids get pretty big, but need even more space than size alone would dictate due to their being very territorial and/or very aggressive during spawning.

It depends entirely on the species. Some, like the ram, and dwarf cichlids like the apistogramma, stay relatively small (no more than 4 inches) and require much less room than most. Others, like angels and discus are medium-sized, reaching about 6-8", while still others like Jack Dempseys and Oscars get really big (up to 10").

Oscars can get to 12" easily, and if I'm not mistaken have been know to grow in exess of 15"!!

My lfs has a display tank with GORGEOUS Oscars and they are HUGE. I haven't gotten close enough to measure them though

are you planning on a larger tank when those sevs are full size?

The answer, BlueIce ;)

P.T.

Thanks P.T. ;)

I know some people are against growing a fish and returning it when it gets bigger and I can completely understand that. However, I don't have a problem with it at all and completely trust that my lfs will make sure the bigger sevs go home to people with appropriate tanks or they'll keep them there in a show tank, like those humongo Oscars.

...OR... I will finally be able to talk the hubby into that bigger tank I've been wanting anyway ;) :p
