Look What I Found In My Tank!

I was looking into the tank about a week ago and saw a very strange looking creature hiding in the Valis at the back. Anyway, finally caught it and here it is....

Might explain the odd couple of inexplicable small fish deaths I've had recently.

Yes i would say its a dragonfly or beetle nymph or some sort, either way its predatory- what sorts of fish have you lost, how big were they and did they have any injurys/symptoms?

I had a small Lyretail killifish disappear a couple of days after it was added (Australe) and a small Bristle nose cat fish. A couple of Amano shrimp have disappeared as well.

It could just be coincidence, but I'm glad it's out the tank now.

Nitrites and Ammonia are steady 0.

I think it must have got into the tank as eggs on plants ?

It might just be coincedence if the fish were brand new.
It probably came into the tank with some plants, the critter looks quite small though so im not sure if it would have been big enough to take down those fish, its more a threat to fry or fish around -1inch, but there isn't much point of having it in the tank either way .

It's body was about 2cm long I guess.

It's joined the big critter maker in the sky.

Kind of made me jump when I finally caught it because I hadn't noticed it and was running my fingers through the grass carpet trying to get rid of beard algae and it jumped out.

Bloody hell i would of jumped a mile!!! that thing is HIDEOUS!!!

we have them in our pond in the garden and we have these when they hatch

lovely in the garden but not so nice in your tank

i had mayfly nymphs in my tank my tiger barbs found them though

i catch these little babies to fish panfish with.i once put one on a tiny hook and let it down in the water and let it swim away.after nuttin took it i realed in and it was eating a small perch fry.

these things are very aggressive and will take on fish more than 3x their own size

i ended up using the minnow for bait also and caught a 6 lbs large mouth on a small microspin

Found another one of these things yesterday a month after the first one, which doesn't make much sense to me. It was smaller than the first one too.

Where are these coming from and how many more can I expect ?
