My o/h bought 3 long nose elephant fish they where fine no problems when introduced,
but within an hour to hour and a half they started acting funny then another hour or so two 2 of the fish died.....
another hour later the third fish died, i have other fish and they all seem fine i`ve inspected them as best i can.

Please can someone help me with as why this could have happened and how too stop it from happening again it was very stressing for the family.

also whats the best way to clean the gravel at the bottom my water always looks cloudy no matter how many times i change a percentage of water.... hope to hear soon many thanks

to be honest, you have chosen a fish which is very tricky to keep. my o/h has lost these times before also. i believe they are very very sensitive to water types, as it has to be spot on - i also think, however can someone please confirm this bit, but i think they are more of a brackish fish also??

Thank you for quick reply, we thought the last one had died but he`s still alive just its a shame for him to die also but dont know if its too late, help!

Hi
do you know the water stats?
Also how new is the tank and what symptoms did the fish show before they died?

Long nose elephants should really be kept alone or in a large group as they can be very aggressive towards their own species,
They should also really only be kept with a sand substrate as gravel can cause damage to their noses

Wen we asked in the shop before buying the fish we where told that they where community fish....
we where aware of the gravel problem and are looking to change to sand very soon, fish expert said we where ok for a little while... we are very gutted with whats happened.

the tank is around 2 months old.

wen introduced to the tank they swam ok and went an hid, within about an hour they where swimming on they where swimming up to the top of the tank nose first, then floating back to the bottom, then a little a later swimming on its side and upside down now they have all died.....

all other fish seem fine as far as i can see.

one of my guppys cant seem to swim down though.

heres a little more info for you
TFF elephantnose profile

if you don't know your water stats i would test them asap as this is very likely to be the cause of the first two deaths.
