Hi....any Long Islanders here attend any local aquarist societies? Did you enjoy yourselves? In general, do many people here attend any of their areas local meetings? Were they fun? Thanks. SH

Hi steelhealr :)

There is a local aquarium society that meets once a month at the Holtsville ecology center. They used to have a little website and before that, even a little forum, but it is gone now.

It always seemed like a fun thing to join, but I have no car, and that pretty much rules out evening meetings for me. :/

Hi S.H ,

I was a member of the LIAS[ long Island Aquarium Society, the one Inchworm mentioned ] about 7 years ago , a nice group of people , I didn't stick around , I had/have young children among other responsibilities . [ meetings just once a month though , I still had trouble making it .]
Every so often I'll get a news letter , I may go back as a guest someday .

At the time some of the people were breeding some really nice fish , the auctions were great , amazing deals .Each month they tried to have a guest speaker  interesting stuff .

Are you a welder ?

HI Lucky..no..not a welder..well a human welder..lolol. The phrase refers to a scalpel, ie, a surgeon. Frank

Nerves of steel too . :flex:

How does one of these meetings work, do you bring your prize fishy in a ziplock and set up play dates? J/K

Can anyone go just to check it out or is it limited to members? I'd be down if I weren't so involved with the BMW Car Club.
