Lonely Oscar?

Hi,
One time i read that oscars should be kept in three's but i am commonly reading that paople have just one oscar
is this okay? and would it ever get lonely?

oscars are fine on there own, youwont be able to get another oscar now because 9 times out of 10 they will fight to the death, you can only keep 2 oscars together if they have been paired when they were little, thats what i thought anyway, someone correct me if im wrong

Get two oscars and get them when they're small and they should be ok but you may have to seperate them whtin a year when they grow to about 8-9" like mine. They started fighting at that point but yes oscars will most deifnitely get lonely. Anyone keeping them on their own with nothing else should be advised against this practice.

I now own a green terror that's half the size of the oscar at current but keeps him tremendous company. Also a sailfin plec and a BGK so that he's not lonely.

I have sailfin plecs in with mine and he seems quite happy.Have tried other fish but he just wouldnt give them 5 minutes peace so ive come to the conclusion he wants all the food for him! he likes the plecs though

Oscars are fish and while they might seem a little bored with nothing to do in a little empty tank, they certainly do not have the brain capacity to feel lonliness. If you really want 2 Oscars then you should start with a few of them and grow them out until a pair forms - a breeding pair will get along for life.

If you'd observed an Oscar that had eben seperated from another then you would know that they do/can get lonely
