well i got my 60g setup for ~$340 (tank, stand, cheap lights, hood, filter, heater). tank prices run really steep until you hit the 45 range, then they increase at a much slower rate...

walmart sells an entire 55g setup for $150... without the stand though

actually, the stand i've got is a really nice solid-plank stand and i wouldn't have saved much more than 30 bucks overall by using walmart (where i couldn't have gotten my nice filter and heater, at least not around here.)(and support your local private fish store, j0!)

i guess i mainly just wanted to point out what a nice tank would run for the casual hobbyist.

tank, stand, hood, lights: $270
filter: $25 (majorly on sale w/ purchase of tank)
heater: $25 (purchased later)
tax: $25
total: $345!!

*pat, pat* one day you'll move to a real city... :p its ok, i feel your pain. until last semester, there was the one private store, but walmart was better. they only recently opened a nice LPS and a PetCo around here.

yea, tanks are expensive. Once you get the filter + heater +plants + gravel + tank itself + cover + occupants...

although, I had to feed my neighbors cat last week. food dish was in the basement, and I happened to spy an idle 10 (?) gallon...
might have to ask 'em for it ;)

I wish I had a bigger tank, or just another one. Unfortunately my mother thinks I get too into it and spend too much time on my fishies. (I'm just a 17 year old high school kid with an ice cream shop job) :p

I do believe I shall start saving up my paychecks... ;)
then I can get my african butterfly fish and have more room for all my babies.
