Hi all, after some advice.

I've had a small shoal of balloon molly's in my tank but we've not been replacing them as they have died as we have wanted to move away from them in the tank. We recently lost our last male and are now left with a lone female. In the few weeks after he has died she has got shyer and shyer and now just hangs about at the back corner of the tank, only moving when disturbed by a shrimp. Before he died she used to be up at the front of the tank following our fingers along the glass and being a really happy fish so its quite noticeable and sad what she is now like.

Obviously the easiest solution would be to add more mollies to the tank but like I said we are trying to move away from them as my girlfriend wants to have a Betta in there and its only a small tank (30L). If we put a Betta is it likely she would see it as a buddy and get more active or will she only improve if we add more mollies?

Hi, firstly I want to ask if your tank water stats are ok. Ammonia, nitrates and nitrites are the top 3.
Mollies are quite bold and outgoing. I don't think 30L is big enough for them personally. I was advised on this forum that my tank (64L) wasn't big enough!
That aside I would test the water and do a water change. Most fish will start being active after a water change. How long have you had the tank set up?
Siamese fighters rarely tolerate other tankmates. I had one in with my platies. They got on initially until he got used to the routine and started making it his home, after that he would flare and chase anything that came near him. They do fine by themselves.
