I have a 14 gallon tank with 2 platies (male and female), and a male guppy- all bright orange. Both the male platy and the male guppy would NOT leave the female platy alone, so I purchased another female platy to take some of the attention. My new platy is a beautiful dalmation and she seems to be very healthy and active in her new home. She has not however taken any attention away from the other female. She swims by herself while the other three are grouped together. I am curious if this is because of her colouring (racist fish...?!?), or if there is something else i'm missing. Anyone seen something like this before?

Thats exactly what i thought when i introduced a silver female molly to my pair of black mollies. The male wasnt interested at all, and the female was quite put out by her! But the silver is pregnant now, and the male defo shows her more attention now! Its only been 3 weeks - yours will get there, dont you worry ;)

A female fish will attract attention. It is a simple statement of fact. Since she is the only female in your tank, she will attract the attention of even a guppy that has no real chance of reproductive success with her. The guppy male will ignore that fact and will continue to try to mate with a female that has no chance of passing on his genomes. It is a very common outcome in our tanks.
