Lock Man's Socio-Pisceological Challenge

Good morning one and all. Or if you're in a different time zone, good afternoon, good evening, or good night.

Anyway, this forum takes pride on offering sage advice on what fish go in what tank. There are a number of members who pride themselves on their intimate knowledge of which species are optimum for certain circumstances. WELL NOW! IT IS TIME TO PUT YOUR MONEY WHERE YOUR MOUTH IS!

Rules of Engagement
I will set out below a scenario involving a tank size and parameters, and certain stocking conditions. You, if you feel you are up to the challenge, will suggest your best-fit solution to the conditions. This afternoon, if there is enough interest, I'll post a vote thread, to vote for a winning combination. And if there isn't enough interest, you'll all be a bunch of girly-girly-woossy-pantses.

The prizes
The winner (ie the one with the most votes) gets a bottle of Tizer
The loser (ie the one with the least votes) just gets to keep forum-member Tizer. Good luck with that one......

The Scenario
You have a 63l tank, measuring 100cm x 25cm x 25cm (that's 16.6 USG, for all you US people), pH of 7.2, moderately hard. You must include a corydoras species, a shoal of a cyprinid species, and at least one livebearer. All species must be readily available from LFSs, no hard-to-find, mail-order only species, please.

You have until 1200hours GMT (just over 2 hours).

rosy barb (as I think they're the less 'nippy' of the breed

Add some quantities in, and you've got there - I should add that if you want to add anything else as well (if you feel that's a good idea) that's fine, so long as you don't leave out any of my stipulations. I should also add that I'm not going to critique anybody's suggestions, that's not what the idea is - I suppose you could call this thread the Virtual Tank of the Day Competition - create what you think would look good.

That better? Personally I don't trust any of the barb species but if they have to go in the rosy's would be my choice

What amazing prizes

Ok, black sandy substrate, about half inch deep, plants that dont go bananas with roots - bogwood with Microsorum pteropus, another piece with some moss (take your pick) along with a few bits of Anubias. Plus coconut cave or two with moss on the roof etc.

Stocking

12 x Celestial Pearl Danios (2 male, 8 female - Cyprinidae)

12 x Green Neons (Paracheirodon simulans - Characidae) OR 12 Ember Tetras (Characidae) OR 12 Chilli Rasbora

10 x Corydoras pygmaeus

Oddballs - 3 Kuhli Loaches, 6 Cherry Shrimp.

As for live bearing fish, i cant recommend any, but if i did, i'd be thinking endlers and dropping the kuhlis / shrimp

To me, with a depth of only 25cm (22cm/23cm with substrate), i have to think "nano" fish only. The length of the tank is its saving grace, hence i though a few Kuhlis might work nicely.

Actually, quick edit to include something else that might work instead of the oddballs....Honey Gourami trio? Stay small, would make a nice center fish, certainly more interesting than livebearers. (Not sure on how many you could keep, i've never kept them myself, i just spotted some the other week in my lfs and though they looked ace)

That one has to be a fail; rosy barbs would get far too big for a tank that size!

I'd go with;
6 panda cories
12 chili rasboras
3 male Endlers

sand substrate with lots of bogwood covered in mosses.

I would be running a 205 External (cant be having half hearted internal filters in my house OR my imagination!) and very heavily planted with lots of Aponogeton and Cryptocorynes and a few bits of bogwood with Java Ferns and Anubias on it and Salvia Natans as floating plants...

Oh... and a couple of mossballs opened and flattened out into a carpet because it looks REALLY cool and the CPDs like spawning on it
