Hey im from South Shields. Il list the ones iv been to:

Harton Aquatics (South Shields) - only been in once, seemed okay, not a huge selection, and iv heard bad reviews of the place.

Pets @ Home (Sunderland) - decent variety of fish, although i think i wont buy any from there again, as practically all of the corys iv bought have died.

Monument Aquatics (Washington) - its okay, doesnt have a big selection, probably has more tanks than types of tropical fish.

Peter Barratts (North Gosforth) - probably best iv been to, has a good selection of fish, quite a few plecos, good place for accessories and ornaments too.

Little Pet Store (Gateshead) - only been once, didnt expect him to sell much but i was wrong, he has a decent selection of tropical fish, and i got bogwood and plants cheap.

Dobbies (Birtley) - cant say much, thought it was crap. The one past Newcastle airport up at Ponteland is better, it sells marine fish too, but nothing special.

If i had to recommend anywhere to you, i would recommend Peter Barratts, although its through the tunnel n' all, its still worth going and if i had to choose anywhere myself, it would be there. Well worth a look.

I cant comment on any other places because iv never been (yet), but iv heard good things about Betta Aquaria in Newcastle, and also my mate told me that The Pet Shop in Hebburn is okay, apparently he sells a selection of Plecos, and if you ever need any fish he hasnt got, he can order them in for you.

If you need the address to any of these, just type the names in Yell.com and itl find it, or google them.

I'm pretty new to this, I've only used Heighley Gate in Morpeth on the A697 just north of the town. I've seen it slagged off somewhere on here but I've actually got some reasonable advice here (when it's quiet!) I've not seen any dead fish there and all of mine are doing well. They have a good selection from a newbie's perspective of course.

but iv heard good things about Betta Aquaria in Newcastle
thair plants are cheap something silly like 40 per bunch, seem to be healthy plants aswell and they dont use chems on thair plants so are safe for shrimp tanks. thair fish tanks vary first couple times i went they were clean and evrything looked verry healthy past few times i have been thair fish havent looked too good. there is two stores they are both small there is one for the fish and plants and another for thair tanks, food, accesories ect the people that normally work in the shop that sells the fish well they seem to know thair stuff but they have a BIG attitude problem regardless if your buying fish and being polite or not, on the other hand the people that normally work in the other shop that sells the tanks and stuff are verry polite and helpfull. i try no to go the betta aquaria because of the attitude you get i dont like giving my money to miserable people who give you attitude with no manners...

there is peeter barrats in gosforth there is one guy atleast who knows his stuff and they will do special orders for you if you want. i got some bee shrimp crystal red shrimp and cherry shrimp on special order from them and the advantage is you dont need to pay for delivery :). sometimes they get some nice and unusual stuff in (i got a giant african vampire shrimp from there once they seem to be rare from what i heard) other times its the usual stuff.

highley gate is ok but the stuff you get from there normally isnt too healthy so you need to keep an eye out if your buying from them i have got a few fish from there last time i went just got 2 keyhole cichlids and 2 convict cichlids from them and they perked up when i got them in my tank after a couple days :).

dobbies. its ok for some stuff tryed to get some special orders but heard nothing back from them only fish i can remember getting from there is my pair of apistogramma cacatuoides cichlids still got the male but the female got attacked by another fish and died :(.

pets at home cramlington not alot there apart from the usual stuff. they do have 1 tank with malawi cichlids in it and sometimes get some good stuff in but rarley. they did have Jack Dempsey Cichlid's and allmost sold it so someone with a 35l tank untill they asked if it would fit in thair 35l tank lol... last time i brought fish from there it took over one hour to catch 2 gold malawis but in fairness the woman serving me dosn't normally work on the fish section and only served me because they were buisy so atleast she was trying to be helpfull.

shaw garden center cramlington they dont have too much depends on what you want small tank with plants in some normal tropicals small selection of cold water fish and small selection of mariene fish. they seem to be changing the pet section tho they made it look alot nicer than it used to, and started selling some more types of fish like cichlids and some oddballs sometimes also sometimes get in L number plecs if they do its normally queen arabesque, clown plecco's (black with white spotts) think i have seen a golden nugget plec aswell cant remember.
last time i went this week they had the usual selection some krib cichlid's, red parrot cichlids, malawis, oscars, a black knife fish, tropical frogs and some others i cant remember off the top of my head.
