Are loachs like corries in that they can't take salt? because the Colomesus asellus that I was planning to accompinany with them likes "lightly" brackish water and I wanted to know wether the loachs can take it, or if I need to aclimate the South American Puffer into freshwater.

Loaches don't like salt in the water, just like the cories. I seem to remember that this is because they don't have any scales.

I wouldn't recommend trying to put the puffer in freshwater though. It might work in the short run, but I don't think the puffer could handle it for long...
