Live vs Frozen vs Freeze Dried Question

If your only going to feed frozen food once a week or even twice a week, then one cube would be perfectly fine. I feed one cube to my 29 gallon every day which only has 5 fish in it. and I feed 3 cubes to my 55 gallon every day. so one whole cube once or twice a week will not harm anything and your fish will love it. Just make sure not to feed them anything else that day. :D

All of my childern are on different foods, but they all seem to share the blood worms. To help with the frozen "chunks" issue, you can thaw out bloodworms in a cup first then introduce it to the fish. That way they won't eat a chunk of frozen food and get sick.

When my oscar was only 3" , my jack dempsey that I got rid of also, I would feed them a cube of frozen bloodworms each at night. Now it's whatever bloodworms I a new oscar we just got won't eat(most of it.) They always loved it and seemed to look forward to it. I only feed frozen brine shrimp to the quick black fin shark catfish(whatever they don't catch is eaten by the cleaning crew anyways.) I also drop pellets and some sort of variety food that looks like round discs. I feed the rest of the fish flakes. I've fed the oscar and the jack dempsey guppies, which they loved very much and asked for some more friends to come for a visit.

I completely forgot to talk about the freeze dried food I use. My oscar prefers Freeze dried brine shrimp over anything except frozen and live stuff. I took a look at the nutritional value and it's got more nutrition and fat in it when compaired to cichlid pellets. Also, the bottle says "Food for improved digestion in larger fish", so I think it's supose to help the digestion. :hey: They can't put that on the bottle if it don't help digestion. False advertising, that is.

For a while I was feeding freeze dried bloodworms, but it was a pain to get these to sink for the fish in the 10 gal so I switched to frozen bloodworms which sink much easier. All my fish, except for one betta, eagerly eat up freeze dried brine shrimp.

I feed mostly flake. 2 kinds veggies a couple times a week, and meat flake the rest of the time. The fish seem to enjoy the variety. I also try to mix up feeding times a little. It seems like it would be closer to theyre natural habitat.imo. Iv always wondered though, about feeding live. Wouldnt that have a chance of gettinng parasites or pathogens from lfs tanks. Has anyone had a bad experience?

If you're unsure about the food having pathogens, try putting in a quarantine/hospitol tank for a week. Anything should pop up by then, including babies. I feed mine guppies from the lfs all the time.

Well, I finally got some bloodworms and fed them today. I went with the frozen ones and my mom didn't flip out as bad as I had expected either.

Per advice on here, I fed half a cube to my 10g. I left the rest of the thawed worms in the cup I had them in, added some tank water, and put them back into the freezer. If I re-thaw this tomorrow or even next week, would it be ok to feed to them?

I've accidently left the bloodworms out of the freezer till they thawed and rofroze them and later fed to my fish without a prob. I never leave half a cube though. I give them the whole thing, and they eat the whole thing.

I only gave half the cube since my tank is so small (as well as the fish that are in there). Currently there are 3 Cardinal Tetras and 4 Longfin Zebra Dainos.

I am going to the LFS today to get some more Cardinals and probably a shrimp or 2, so that will stock the tank better, but I still don't want to over feed.

I feed my fish live blackworms and sometimes live tubifex, and I also feed them the freeze dried tubifex cubes.

I've tried the frozen ones twice and both times found them to be very unpleasant to use compared to the live ones. I don't care for the fact that they have an odor, and I especially do not like to see that the freezing process causes them to burst and that blood and other nutrients leaks out into the water.

The freeze dried cubes are very high in protien and because live food is expensive and occasionally unavailable, I use them to supplement my fishes diet. To reconstitute them, hold the cube underwater for a minute or two. If you gently squeeze it, it will absorb the water faster. Once it is moistened, just gently rub with your fingers, and shake it, until they separate.

I much prefer live food to any other kind. While it might sound unpleasant to keep and to feed them, it is really not that way at all. The important thing is to clean them well and to re-rinse them daily. I find it well worth the effort.

I always feed live brine shrimp.

And is Use the TetraFreshDelica range for blood worms and daphina. They come in little sachets and are preserved in a vitamin jelly.

So far my little fishes love the daphina, and I'm gonna try them out on the bloodworm tonight.
