A fish store owner told me you can not put live rock with fish they will eat it. Sure they will pick on it and eat some but that does not mean you can not or should not put it in a tank with fish.

What do you think of this comment?
I thought it was always a good idea to keep live rock when setting up a saltwater tank. But then again I could be wrong since I am new to salt water.

And how much would you pay for 40 lb of live rock that someone is selling because they are breaking down their tank. So it is used rock :)

some fish cant be kept because of fins but i do nt think any would eat it and as a cheap guide on ebay i paid 5 pound a kilo gram which was good as i got 30 kg so it would of cost me a bomb from others as it was i paid 150 for it all, and now go to that guy for equipment as he once offered me a 260 tank witgh equipment for salt for 100 quid and i got a twin arcadia t5 starter for 10 pounds and he near enough gives me t5 tubes

Don't you just love some LFS. It is perfectly ok to put LR with fish, most of us on here do it :good:

LR is the best natural filtration system its called the Berlin method and its very successfull, as long as you have a good powerhead creating good movement and flow through the rock :good:

As for price it can vary widely but I would say somewhere around £6 to £7 a kilo would be ok. Its also a good idea to get LR from an established tank, as it will be fully cured and full of life. Just make sure its not out of water for to long, otherwise you will start to get die off :good:

Thanks guys. I thought she was a bit off for saying you can't keep fish with live rock. This is the same store that sells nurse sharks and sturgeons to anyone that wants them.

Sounds to me like you need to find a better LFS lolz. Aswell, in regards to the 40lbs of liverock, I buy live rock for $5 per 1lb. So 40lbs is about... $200 where I live. But if you're buying a larger quantity you can usually haggel it down.

There is someone in my lrc that only has one decent cave/chunk of rock in his big tank and that's it. Fish gets along just fine. Depends on what you're keeping really.

btw, he has a shark and a stingray. That's why he doesn't have much rock work.

if you can't put live rock in with fish, then you can't put any rock in with fish, cause most any rock with any porosity to it at all will become live over time. find a new lfs guy, imo.
