if i kept live plants in my breeding tank, will i still need to get some microworms? how long will the organisms on the plants be able to feed the fish? is there anything that looks like java moss but isnt java moss? i think i saw one in a cup at my lfs. only one there, and he doesnt have a description, or know what it is.

Java moss is java moss, if it looks like Java moss, it is :p Usually the microorganisms can keep the fry fed until the point where you can feed them crushed food, tthat's how it worked out whenever I bred cichlids :)

would you happen to have a picture of a nice clump of java moss?
Yes :p Ignore the bits of anubias and Java fern caught in the moss ;)

thanks, i just wanted to make sure its java moss and not a look alike, the damn shop owners always lie to get business, except for this old guy, he told me i need a heater for neons when i first started fishkeeping, so he refused to sell them to me, yet he stocks painted fish. cant wait till i go there again, ill finally have a live plant in my tank

edit: how much did you pay for yours? i dont want to get ripped off either. is 4 dollars a good price for micro swords and amazon swords? what about 2 dollars for hornwart, anubias or banana plant? i think those are the prices, im not 100% sure

Java moss spreads like wild fire, that (In picture) was just a small part of the clump in that tank, and one of many clumps in my possession :p The moss can cling to most surfaces (Rocks, gravel, plants, driftwood, decorations. or you can leave it floating)

JM is very good for fry though, it provides refuge and tiny bugs called infusoria that the fry will eat :)
