Ok, small plant problem. In my past aquariums, I have never managed to keep plants alive, let alone grow them. However, ever since setting up my new Fluval 180L aquarium, my live plants have been growing everywhere. I am using a substrate of kiln-dried sand.

The thing is, I put them in the back left to grow a little before re-arranging them around the tank, but now they are even starting to grow COMPLETELY NEW plants in the centre of my aquarium. Its not just a little far apart, we are talking 2 feet away from where they are currently planted.

I am happy they are growing so well, but I would really appreciate any help on how to stop growth everywhere, and limit it to just the area where the original plant was rooted. I know I may seem lazy, and many people would just pull up or move any new growths, but I am trying to see if there is any other way to stop this problem recurring every 3-4 days?

i have the same problem, but there is no way to stop it i dont think. besides killing them, (haha) i even tried making barriers, but the roots just kept growing over, i havent found anything to do other that just keeping up with your aquascaping. what kind of plants are they?

Hi Damsel_in_Distress,

:hey: What you could do is let the excess plants grow on a little, then offer them to members on here !?!

There are many people who have trouble getting their plants to grow, so I think you are just going to have to keep gardening and pruining.. unless you want to go for the non spreading nasty plastic/silk plants LOL

Don't leave me out if there are good growing plants up for grabs, be your best friend :)

....everything I put in gets eaten

all of my plants are extra green! haha... and well there are chutes carpeting the gravel like crazy... and ive put all of the excess plants in my water reserve thing. they are all about 18 inches in height, (hair grass or whatever) and i have about 30 excess... lol i think more but whatever. i dont want to think about it. tomorrow it will all probly grow back anyways. how did they get so crazy? i never turned the light on in that tank for a month! but then again its by a window, but no direct sunlight. o ya, and no way can i give anyone plants, the so called *state* of hawaii wont let me ship any of the freakin things.

 Oh sorry, didn't realise that.. You should fill in you profile, so members know where you are located and what species you keep etc..

well considering i havent been on here since november i didnt really have the time too. haha :fun: i'll do that now!

I don't know what species of plants mine are, but ill try and post a few pictures up later so people can see for themselves.

So far, I haven't let them get past 2-3 inches in height, but now I know some people on here are eager for plants, I may consider growing them.

The plant could be sending runners everywhere. See if you can trace roots from the new plants back to the mother plant.
