is it ok to rinse blackworms the night before feeding them. i want to feed my fish live food in the morning and flake at night, but i dont have time to rinse my blackworms out in the morning, is too much live food bad for fish?

I wouldnt think it was "bad" for fish to get too much live food, its just that fish should be feed a variety of foods to provide them with more essential nutrients from their diet.

I would think rinsing the worms the night would be fine.

Appropriate live food is excellent nutrition and highly recommended as a supplement for anyone who can do it. As long as the fish you have are built to handle blackworms, then what you are doing is just fine.

Hi Dorkhedeos :)

Live blackworms are excellent food for all meat eating fish. I wouldn't worry about feeding them too much, especially if they are young and still growing, or if they are going to be bred. As long as you feed them some flake to provide the other nutrients they need, they will be fine.

Since blackworms are expensive to feed, you will naturally want to use them up before they die, so feed your fish all they want and if a few get into your gravel, that's OK too. If you have bottom feeders they will pull them out, or you can stir the gravel to free them when you have run out. Remember that there will be periods of time when you can't get them. If the ones for sale at the lfs don't look too good, pass on them and feed flake instead. So, while it might seem that they are eating a lot of them, it will average out in the long run.

Rinsing once a day is usually fine, no matter when you do it. :D

k, thanks, im trying to culture my own black worms right now, ive read taht they double their population in 3 weeks if they are fed shrimp pellets and have clean water? my lfs gets new blackworms every week, they use the blackworms for their discus too.
