Hi, I know that live food which you buy in those little bags at the LFS keep for a while if refridgerated but for how long? The main reason for this is I would like to have a container under my tank where I store live food and all I have to do is fish some out and feed the fish.

Thanks

Depends on what live food you mean exactly. Mosquito larvae can not be kept for too long as they will develop into mosquitos. I have been breeding Daphnia or water fleas for quite a while now and they are quite easy to keep. Just add them to a small tank and feed with a few drops of milk and some dry yeast every couple of days. Even better food for them is algae, it's very easy to make green water to feed them with. Just fill a bottle with tank water and keep it in the window, if you can add an airpump to keep the water moving, that would be even better.

Hi, thanks. I am on about bloodworm, brine shrimp etc, basically the stuff you get at the LFS.
I have tried mosquito larvae and my fish love them. Down side as you said is they change into flying bugs.
I might have a go with the daphnia, do you just buy some and put them in a container an feed them milk/yeast and what for them to multiply?

Thanks

They will multiply by themselfs, you will have a constant live foodsource!

This is wonderful- just the info I needed! My ticos have told me if I feed them on live daphnia, they might even consider turning up for the daily roll call.

You always get something when you go onto this forum :good:
