I was flicking through the pages of PFK magazine today and i came across a really interesting fish that i would love to have, it was named Rhinogobius yaoshanenis.

I came home and did abit of reasearch and read they are also known as lip stick gobys.

Have anyone ever kept any of these and are they easy to get hold of ?

I don't know this species, but all the Rhinogobius are very similar. Not fussy about water chemistry, but do keep cool, an unheated tank around 18 C is ideal, and provide a soft substrate for burrowing, lots of caves, and super-strong water current with plenty of oxygen. Diet isn't difficult as they all seem to enjoy wet-frozen bloodworms and the like.

Many spawn quite easily, but the fry are a bit small and tricky to raise.

Cheers, Neale

Wildwoods in Enfield usually has three or four species in stock, in their cold water section.

E-mail Keith Lambert to find out more:

Thanks for the info. Do you know anywhere that sells a good selection ?

Keith got right back to me! He'd replied to your message the same day, and sent along some photos as well. Do check your spam folder and your spam settings just in case Keith's message has been marked as spam.

Hi Neale. Many thanks. I definitly didnt get anything in my inbox or spam/junk mail box. Could you ask him to send it me again if possible or would i be better off resending the email ?

I'd send a new message to him. He sent photos of the species -- multiple! -- in stock, so this all sounds promising!

I've asked Keith to send me some photos too, and as/when he does that, I may post them here so others can see them, too.

Cheers, Neale
