I've got five Yellow labs in a 50 us gallon and they all chase each other (which I expect) but my better half think's that as these labs should be some of the less aggressive african cichlids they should get along a bit.

Is aggression less with females as only one of my five is definitely female (has been holding twice in six months) whereas 3 are definitely male and 1 is probably male (not been holding since i got him)

Should I consider changing two males for two females, will this cut aggression down at all? (and give me a quieter life?)

I would say yes to changing out some males for females. 4 males to 1 female is a bad situation...the ratio is usually the other way around. poor female has too many bachelors chasing her around...and the bachelors have way too much competition for the lone girl.
