yea, last night he just hung out at the top of the tank over the powerhead. wasnt interested in food. this morning his body was rolling across the bottom of the tank. dont know what happened. he would take food from tongs well. i even got a bunch of glass shrimp for him to hunt. seemed fine. i checked my water all is well. my anemones and corals are fine. so are my featherdusters and other fish. i did lose a sailfin tang about 2 weeks ago but i chocked that up to being bullied by the lionfish since he would give chase when the tang was near. oh well it sucks i really liked that fish. now where can i get a harliquin tusk?

That's a real shame about both the fish dying. :(

If your water parameters are within acceptable levels, losing two fish with no apparent reason might suggest some kind disease or infection. Like you say, the tang could be possibly be chalked up to stress/bullying by the lionfish, but for an otherwise healthy fish, that was eating well to suddenly give up the ghost, is a bit concerning, especially if it wasn't a new addition. Personally, I'd leave it for 3-4 weeks before considering introducing any new fish and observe the health of the remaining ones in your tank.

yea i was figuring on getting 2 more damsels and some more liverock while saving for some nicer fish. had the lion for a month and a half. just find it wierd that the ghost shrimp and everything else are doing perfectly fine.

Unfortunatly a month and half for a lion fish is a common time - they can live without much or any food for that long - what tends to happen is you think they are eating but actually they are not and they just starve to death

Sorry for your loss

What were you feeding him? What kind of lion was he? I had a dwarf lion that I lost and I know how special they can be. I now have a volitans. I kept the fuzzy dwarf for over year but discovered they should not have freshwater foods like goldfish or minnows or guppies as their main diet. They also should not have krill as their main diet.

My Lionfish died due to poor water quality when I started out with Saltwater, get that Skimmer and Good Fully Matured Filter running before adding fish ;)

skimmer is fine, so is the water. i gave him frozen krill and saltwater glass shrimp. he wouldnt eat raw shrimp and no store around me had silversides. he did eat 3 of my damsels. spoke to an old timer at my lfs. he said they are wild caught and can sometimes have paracites way before they get them.

If your water is fine then all I can say is LionFish tbh are very delicate fish and as such not worth the time hence once mine died I didnt bother buy another. Its just the way it is sometimes, do what I did and get into PufferFish / TriggerFish or eels etc. they are much more intelligent, interesting to watch and have personalities plus they are very hardy and will live for years. See some pics of my puffers for inspiration ;) http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/316728-saltwater-pufferfish-tank/page__pid__2625673__st__0&#entry2625673

GL ;)

well i have a snowflake moay who is becoming quite fun. im teaching him to come to the top of the tank to be fed. dont worry its sealed off. my 4 new acquisitions are a yellowbell and domino damsel (which this morning was only the yellowbell. aparently my eel doesnt like black fish he took out my 4 stripe damsel too. just killed and left to float.) a blue spot puffer and a pinkish squirrel fish that my daughter wanted since its pink. id really like to get a harliquin tusk and flame angel. after that who knows.
