not a whole lot of information i can find on google, and it doesn't seem like a lot of people talk about them here, but I'd like to hear any experiences from those who have kept them. I was given a young female at a fish auction yesterday. She was part of a pair, but the male died before the auction began and no-one bought the bag. The seller had left before the end so the guy running things gave her to me.

I've read conflicting information about these fish. Some sites say they are aggressive, some that they are friendly. My assumption is that as a female she will be more placid than a male, but I know sometimes a single fish can get quite aggressive. Some sites also suggest adding salt to the water. Are they like mollies then, and prefer brackish, or should i ignore that advice?

it seems like all the information on the 'net is in another language ????

Hi there, I have kept quite a few limias, although I never had too much luck with perugiae, they are a really beautiful fish when settled.

Try the attached link. You could do worse than joining up and posting on the ALA, especially if you are in California.

According to John Dawes, Livebearing Fishes, the perugiae has fairly standard limia requirements: neutral to alkaline water (no need for brackish), a temperature around 26 C and a mixed diet incorporating a vegetable element.
Shame you lost the male. I am in a similar position with my merry widow- got a pair at an auction, male was looking droopy as I picked up the bag and didn't cope with the journey+acclimatisation.

thanks for the link, i'll check it out. as for the ALA, I am in california, pa. it's a little college/coal town south of pittsburgh.

it is a shame the male died. she might have sold if the male hadn't croaked, but that's okay. sellers have to put some contact info on the bags, so at least i have the guy's number and can get more.
