How long have you tried? Many lilies take a few weeks to sprout.

They tend to need high light.

Sam

Not necessarily so Sam, I've had lilies sprout and thrive in less that 2WPG. Nymphaea lotus does this, as does stellata. Moderate lighting is sufficient. Lilies, however, will grow more compact the more lighting the tank has. Mine have quite a few floating leaves, but I want it that way.

Fair point, thats kinda what I meant, thanks for re-wording me again Llj ;)

hi guys.
I bought a lily bulb - or rather a tuber - from nannypetals on Ebay (I realise many of you reading this will now be screaming at the screen!).
Anyway, I dropped it in the tank about 8 weeks ago.It began to shoot in about three days and then went black and I thought it had rotted .
I left it in, and a couple of weeks later it began to shoot again so I pushed it into the gravel at the back of my tank and this is what it looks like now.
I really love the spots on the leaves and is a great contrast with the plain old green hues of all the rest of my plants.

Can't yet see it from the front as it's behind some bogwood, hence the aerial photo.

I have 2 wpg (if I remember correctly).

I put a Nymphae bulb in my standard Juwel 180 with a 3cm layer of pea gravel.
After 3 weeks it wouldn't stop producing aerial leaves at the surface.
THe entire surface was covered and every week I would have to prune it.
Eventually it was too much effort so I had it removed.
