hi all,

When I fed my fish this morning I noticed that my male platy has had a corner taken out of his back tail.
First thing to cross my mind is "oh no, fin rot", but on closer inspection there is no noticeble fraying, and he is still behaving normally otherwise. (eating like there is no tommorrow and chasing the females around relentlessly). Plus his tail was definately whole when I saw him last night, I doubt rot could be that quick.

So i'm wondering if any of the other fish in my tank might have decided to see if his fin tasted any good? His tankmates are in my signature below.

I thought maybe the CAE, but would a CAE actually bite fins? As I thought their main thing was eating the other fish's slime coats. Also he is only young and has so far been living in the community tank quite peacefully.
Another thought might be one of the females had enough of the chasing around and lashed out?

Of course when I get home from work I will watch them for a while and see if there are any signs of aggression. And I'm not ruling out fin rot, I will be keeping a close eye on.

Any thoughts welcome.

Angel fish need a 30gal tank, so i would go for the angel or the gouramis, and that cae needs a large tank, plus they get aggressive as they get older.

I doubt it is the angel, she is only a baby and is still quite small, her mouth wouldn't be big enough.
But I didn't think about the kissers, they never seem interested in the other fish at all, but will keep a close eye on them. I'm well aware they need a bigger tank, but so far I can't find anybody who will take them :(

"baby" can encompass a pretty wide range of sizes. can you tell us in approximate inches? (try luring her into a corner of the tank with food/a finger and hold a ruler up to her.)
