How long do you leave your aquarium lights on?

im currently only leaving them on 8hrs per day (9-5)... is this too much or too little? or should i split the 8hrs and do 9-1 then 4-8? not sure whats ideal to be honest..

i have mine on for 10 hours a day.

12-10pm.

as i keep cichlids it helps encourage algae growth which is a source of their natural food and nutrients

maybe an idea for me then, as ive noticed my angels like to pick the algae from the background and the bits that are growing on the wood

I think anywhere from 8-12 hours per day is fine, below 8hrs and I don't think the plants will thank you. Above 12hrs and algae will slowly overrun your tank.

4-8 hours is the norm in the plant business, I'd only go 8 hours max.

mine come on at 9 and go off at 9 so 12 hours, im planning on setting up some type of moonlight lights so they will do the first and last hours.
