Hello all, two weeks ago I bought some color intensifier lights, the lady at the LFS said this would help promote plant growth and bring out the colour of the fish (turns out she gave us wrong info)

Our plants were looking a bit brown and dying. Anyway, we got some new bulbs yesterday.

Aqua-Glo 15W T8's with 18,000k . Light spectrum emitted

We bought two for our 55 gallon tank (both 18 inch)

I wanted to know are these lights anygood? If not which lights are recommended for our tank

Are the aqua-glo's a good light to have on their own? Im gonna get a 15" for my 10 gallon.

My lfs said they stock with aqua-glo's because it brings out the reds and blues and intensifies these colours. It also is good for plant growth, thats what they said.

Its a nice fresh colour bulb.

Yeh 6500k is about right, but the wavelenght of light it far more important than the K rating.

The 2 important factors to consider are the Intensity (lumens/lux) and a spectrum which helps photosynthesis. Obviously a higher intensity lamp will be more successful.

A K rating of around 6000-10000 is closest to sunlight hence is preferred. Also bear in mind the CRI. This should be above 95% to give a real life colour rendition.
