Heres another one of my stupid questions but how come in the mornings when I turn on my light my fish seem fine but at night when I turn it off my fish seem to go crazy (they will just like bolt into a group and will swim the length of the time like 1 or 2 times) its really weird but I don't get it

just one of those odd fish things i think, mine do the opposite, they get all crazy as soon as i turn on the lights and then get all settled for sleep when the lights go off

lol

I have noticed similar behaviour with some of my fish

For example. Clown loaches are more nocturnal and...when i turn my tank lights off they come out and start acting all crazy. Guess it depends on the species :good:

I wouldnt be too concerned tho

try to think of them in their natual habitat where the sun slowly rises and sets, altering light levels gradually. When aquarium lights ping on and off it's quite different and might be a bit of a shock to some species.

Try shutting off the lights while the room is brightly lit. It may have some of the effect of having the sun go down if you can remove the light in stages like that. I have my timers set so that the tank lights go off before I go to bed so that the light in the tanks has this 2 step reduction. If I intend to turn on lights when it is dark outside, I always turn on the room lights first so that again the fish will get some light into their tank before I blast them with the tank light.

My tank is in the living room so majority of the time there is some light in the tank whether it be from the t.v. table lamp or the ceiling light. They don't seem to do it when I turn on the light in the mornings (only when I move the light back they seem pretty hyper because they know I'm either feeding them or doing something to the water.) When I turn the lights off usually the tv is still on or the ceiling light is so they have some light in the tank even after their light is off.
