Okay, I have been trying to get plant bulbs to grow in my tanks. I put some bulbs into my 10 gallon 3 weeks ago and I pretty much have nothing from them cept what looks like moss.... that is about it... white garbage and stringy.

I had the normal light bulbs that come with the tank. plain light bulbs... so I assume they were not ment to grow plants.

I changed them out to bulbs listed for plant growth in fish tanks.

With that said, I have 2 more tanks to set up. I am needed to get light fixtures with one, and currently have one for the other... so the question is.... will this light bulb in this link work for plant growth:

I have one unit that is that long that I will change out using this bulb if this is the correct path to take. For the other tank I will need to modify something and use 2 shorter lights ( like 24 inches or around that ) and they have similar bulbs for that length. I just dont want to buy bulbs that I wont have use for if they are not right... besides tossing them and watching them pop... outside of the environmental issues with doing that LOL

The grow lux bulb is sold as being ideal for plant growth. In reality, evidence does not support any basis for a particular spectrum. You need to have enough light for your plant in any spectrum from about 2700K(warm white) to about 10000K. The amount of light that you have will determine which plants you can grow (we use watts per gallon to judge the amount). I have plenty of tanks that use nothing but the lights that come with the tank and do fine for low light plants. On the other hand, I have tanks that will grow almost anything but use very bright light tubes. The spectrum that I prefer, it is personal preference, is around 5500K to 6000K. It is a color that I prefer but as I have said the spectrum has very little effect. That is much like noon sunlight in spectrum. Well lit tanks are far more flexible than minimally lit tanks but any of them will support things like Anubias or java moss.

what plant, as some bulbs have a dormant stage.
