I am toying with the idea of replacing the light in the hood of my tank with a double fitting so that I could have white normal lighting during the day and then when it starts to get into early evening time maybe have a different tube which would shine a calming blue light into the tank.

Does anyone know if this would have any adverse effects on the fish or any reason why it would not work, or indeed any better ideas if anyone out there has tried something similar.

Lots of posts / opinions in the hardware section on this.

Depending on how big your tank is you could always run both as regular bulbs during the day and then run one of these in the evening (really brings pleks out).

I've seen some people have a bluish bulb at the back and a regular bulb in the foreground which gives a nice effect.

The light will help in the quality of your plants but if you've got a smaller tank (sub 3' I'm not sure I'd go to the expense myself - up to you on that one).

I wouldn't go for blacklight, just blue cold cathode or LED's if it's a moon effect your after.
