Lighting

How much light should my tank be getting? I have read in places that it should be for around 8 hours a day however i have two pregnant platys and was wondering if the light should be on less?

It should get whatever light it needs for the plants in the tank. The fish can really do fine with just room light but it makes them a bit harder to watch.

The fish arnt bothered.

I give mine 12 hours but that just so i can see them till 10 at night.
