Lighting Unit Buzz

Over the last week or so there has been a buzzing coming from the lighting unit not the normal buzz a loud anoyying buzz the only way of stopping it is banging it.
Its the same unit as this

Any ideas why its doing it or a way i can fix it without buying a new one?

I have a little jewel tank with a similar unit. I found my buzzing was the vibration from the filter making the lid buzz, I put an elastic band round the cable to the filter where it went through the lid, that stopped it.

If the unit still buzzes when its off the tank, try:
Tightening the end caps on the bulbs.
Checking the relector (if you have one) is not loose.

Alternatively it could be one of the bulbs on its way out.

Yeah I had the same problem with my old tank.

I found it to be a similar problem to what Star4 is describing. Inside the lid, there was a sealed unit which housed the ballast and the starter for the light bulb. Where they had sealed the lid after fitting the ballast etc they had not done it properly and I was getting a loud buzzing sound coming from the lid. After I resealed it, it was fine. It probably isn't the same problem but something similar.

I'd say there's something loose in/on your lid. Try to listen to exactly where it's coming from and investigate. Look for anything that is loose and try to secure it.

Also, if you have any air pump tubes going into your tank; make sure they're entering through one of the holes on the back of the lid designed to feed your cable through.

Could be the bulb, depends what kind of noise its emitting. whether its a plastic on plasic buzz, or a electric buzz.
