Lighting For Small Tank.

Hi there, the other day the light unit on my 40l tank stopped working, it just flickers but never actually stays on properly, so i'm not sure wether I need to simply replace the bulb or the whole thing.
This is the current bulb, can't find the starter though. Bulb
The tank does have plants so I don't want to get something rubbish. I would actually quite like to upgrade a little if thats possible, but having looked around it doesn't seem so easy to find one that will fit the tank, it measures roughly 1ft in width and depth. Also I can't really spend more than £30
If anyone could recommed something to me that would be great

I have recently taken to just buying generic bulbs which peak at red, blue and green. They are a fraction of the cost of "aquatic" bulbs and for me work just as well. Or are you looking to buy a new unit too? Generally, replacing an old bulb makes a lot of difference.

Does the unit have a starter? flickering is not broken. Its either your bulb or your starter and I would check starter first. Starters are very cheap to replace.

The lamp is over 2 years old so it could be either, how do I check them?
About the Arcadia Pod thing, theres one of these on another tank that I 'oversee' down at a local school and it doesn't seem very good at all, although its fairly old so it could be that.
I sort of would like to buy a new unit, but that depends on whether I can get a better one for a good price, because yeah, cost is an issue.
