I have a 48" 55 gallon tank, with live plants and fish..

I recently decided that the 2 x 24" hoods are not sufficient.. I would like one larger, higher wattage light.

What would you guys reccomend? I would like to brighten the tank up and supply the plants with some more lighting as well.

Lack of information. What are the lights, T8s or T5s? What are you aiming for? The higher the wattages the more chances you must inject CO2.

LEDs mate. They are awesome and the future. Ps3steveo custom builds them to suit any tank any set up.
He can even include moonlighting, And they last for 20 years!
Here is a link to his profile, give him a message and see what he can do for you.

haha right on, well i believe they are t5. what i am initially aiming for is for the tank to be a bit brighter.. it is fairly dark.
im not looking to add co2 to the tank. i have 2 amazon swords, a few java ferns, dwarf sag (turning brown), and a bit of hornwort on the surface for gouramis.

Low tech LEDs then, PM steveo for a quote :p
