Hi, not sure this is the right forum.

I am maturing my new 4ft tank at present. It comes with 2 dual t8 lighting ballasts. Each ballast has 1 aqua glow and 1 plant glow (I think).

My problem is the tank is fine at 26 degrees when the lights are off but during the day when the lights are on the temperature rises to 28 degrees!

Is there any way I can stop this happening. I dread the summertime heat.

I was thinking of changing the 2 plant lights for 2 actinics. So there would only be the 2 aqua glows on during the day.,

Would this help with the heat problem? The only thing is because each ballast will be on a timer the 2 actinics will need to be on one ballast and the 1 aqua glow on another. This means the main lighting will either be at the front of the tank or near the back.

Any help will be appreciated as I need to sort this out before I add my cichlids,

TIA

hey tiger, are the lights sitting on any kind of footing?

if they arent and it's right smack dab on the lids then you bet you'll get heat.

although IMHO the 2 degree difference isnt such a worry since the same thing happens in the wild.

look around in dif sites for FOOTING for the lights if it bothers you that much.
