Lighting And Fish Stress

Hello everyone,

This could possibly be a very stupid question so pleae don't flame me if it is

I was lifting the hood of my tank up today and it was still on, The lights almost hurt my eyes and I thought to myself 'Do the lights actualy bother the fish?'

Surface feeders are just a few inches away from the lights at times.. Does anyone have any information on this or maybe I really am just being stupid

In general most fish would prefer the lights off. There is plenty of ambient light for them during the day. That's all they get in the wild. The lights are really just for our viewing pleasure and for any plants that we add.
